A couple weeks ago we went to Charlotte to hang out with our sweet friend (and former bride) Nancy of I Do Wedding Consulting! Nancy decided to create an amazing tablescape for us to shoot, and then she had the brilliant idea of using the table for dinner! It was by far the fanciest dinner I have been to, and it was so lovely and intimate with all the candles and elegant decor. It really was an amazing time!

The setting was perfect for an outdoor spring event! The flowers were so romantic and fragrant, and Nancy made adorable cocktail stirrers out of paper flowers. They almost looked real! The linen Nancy chose was so colorful, and the brown chiavari chairs were an elegant touch. The long table made for great conversation as we passed plates and poured wine. The mirrored mosaic vases and cracked wine glasses added a modern touch to it all. While I loved looking at it, it was even better to sit at the table and enjoy the evening. Table decor just sets the mood for any event!

We’re really looking forward to shooting a wedding with one of Nancy’s couples next fall! She’s amazing at what she does!

Last weekend we had the opportunity to do an inspiration shoot with Katrina McCullum from Made of Honor Weddings. I think it should officially be called the “It’s so PRETTY!!” shoot! We’ve been talking about this since last fall and it finally came together thanks to Katrina’s hard work putting together a team of great wedding vendors! Katrina coordinated three different looks for the shoot. For the sassy bride, she put together a sexy green and black design that featured bling, lace, and feathers (all things flirty and fun!). The second design was full of romantic pinks (perfect for the romantic bride dreaming of a fairytale wedding). The outdoor setting gave it a sort of English garden/tea party feel, and we had a lot of fun with it! The last design was Katrina’s baby – an elegant wine red and slate grey set with stunning linens. It’s ideal for the sophisticated bride.

It took a lot of amazing people to make this shoot a success, and we’d like to thank everyone involved for their hard work:

Floral Design by Angie Gay Davis of S & A Weddings and Events
Napkin Rings from Remarkable Rhinestone (as seen on My Fair Wedding with David Tutera)
Linens by Melissa Hyderali of Royalty Events
Chairs from Cassandra Cherneski of Flaire Weddings and Events
Cake Design by Trisha Millican of Metro Custom Cakes
Makeup by Lindsey Wirht
Hair by Kasey Blake
Our beautiful model – Leah Ashley M.

And last, but certainly not least, the venue for our shoot – Hidden Hills! Their staff was so accommodating and gave us all afternoon/evening for the shoot, moved furniture where we needed it, brought plates and glassware, and provided beverages for us. They were fantastic, and it’s a beautiful venue for an event! I will definitely recommend them the next time a bride asks about venues!

Now for the bling-tacular photos! Kudos to Katrina on her first inspiration shoot! You did an amazing job coordinating everything, and it was so fun to work with you and all the vendors who were part of this project! Thank you for letting us be part of it! : )

I love reading through all the articles on my blog reader and then seeing familiar images in them! Yesterday, I was excited to see that Truly Engaging wedding blog featured Stephanie & Dave’s St. Augustine wedding photos! Heidi is the voice behind Truly Engaging, the inspiring wedding blog of MagnetStreet Weddings (love their stationery designs, and our couples do too!). She is also one of the panel members for our big wedding photography giveaway (which you only have 2 weeks left to enter – hint hint!). ; )

Of course, most of the comments were about Stephanie uber-sexy Badgley Mischka shoes! And OF COURSE it happens to be a shot that I can’t take credit for, because my dear partner in crime Matt totally out-shot me on this one! See, we’re competitive like that, and this is just another reminder that Matt is really the master of getting killer shoes shots!

But it just begins with the shoes! The couple and the rest of the wedding day (the ceremony at the historic Llambias House, the reception overlooking the water) were just as gorgeous! Thanks so much to Heidi for featuring their wedding! We just loved everything about Stephanie & Dave’s St. Augustine wedding!

Shooting with Justin & Mary

December 13, 2010

I’m still recovering from all the fun I had this weekend with the awesome Justin & Mary Marantz! They flew down from Connecticut to shoot a wedding in Miami and invited me to come along and help out. Secretly, I think they helped me more than I helped them! I learned so much just watching them in action. But then, over the years I’ve learned so much from them, whether through their blog, their workshops and presentations (like their Spread The Love tour), and from a private mentor session I had with them last year. Seriously, photographers, other wedding vendors, and even brides and grooms should follow their blog! It will inspire you!

One big thing I learned this weekend was that you can create amazing images even if the situation is not ideal. You’ll never know by looking at their images that the bridal suite was filled with ladies getting ready and gift bags filling the floor. I admitted to them that I just always thought their getting ready images look like they had a huge room with a lot of open space and very few people in the room. And while they often get a lot of time for formal photos, the wedding this weekend was on a bit of a time crunch and they still shot incredible couple shots and family photos. They just blow me away. Give them a challenge, and they will find a way to make it work. And while they are both incredibly talented, I’m more impressed by how they work as a team. They are just all kinds of awesome!

They just posted a sneak peek of Lauren & Matias’ Miami wedding photos on their blog today! What a sweet and adorable couple! The wedding was beautiful, so you don’t want to miss all the details!

Justin & Mary, thank you so much for this opportunity! My head is spinning with ideas and thoughts about the upcoming year, and I really appreciate you challenging me to start thinking about what we want to happen in 2011. Matt gets back from his trip tonight and we have so much to talk about! We both are so thankful for all the knowledge that you share and for your encouragement! We can never give back all that you have given us! : )

Dress Talk is a bi-weekly post featuring wedding dress shopping and gown advice by guest blogger Sam Owen of Solutions Bridal Designer House. Make sure to check back for more bridal fashion information and also add The Bridal Closet, official blog of Solutions Bridal Designer House, to your blog reader!

This past week New York City hosted its semiannual Bridal Market. Also referred to as New York Bridal Fashion Week, the event was filled with runways, designers, dresses and celebrities that give us bridal gurus googly eyes. Among the googly eyed was Solutions Bridal’s very own sales manager and buyer, Tali Gallo! In an interview exclusively for this blog, she gave me the inside scoop!

Q: What exactly is Bridal Market?
A: “Very similar to New York Fashion Week, Bridal Market is a time for designers to showcase their inspiration and designs to all buyers from Neiman Marcus to independent boutiques. Press such as Southern Weddings, Style Me Pretty and the Knot also attend to cover the up and coming trends of the season.”

Q: What is the advantage for you to go directly to the fashion shows of Bridal Market?
A: “A designers sketch is a piece of art, and they do not always take into account the production of the dress while drawing. Practical decisions and changes need to be made. It’s like I would never advise a bride to buy a wedding dress based on what they saw in a picture. By attending I can also speak with designers about customizations and changes that can be made to their dresses.”

Q: Who were you most impressed with this year?
A: “Anne Barge, but I think I change my mind everyday depending on my mood. She (Anne Barge) has always had a classic-lace-meets-editorial look, but this year she really went back to her roots of beauty and southern elegance. Jessica (who accompanied Ms. Gallo) even had goose bumps!”

Bridal Market Fall 2010

Q: What details or styles should the trendy bride be looking for as the next big thing?
A: “Every season in bridal fashion is a carry-on of the previous season, but with bolder looks. Loud, large floral designs were everywhere; lots of shear details, black sashes, black beading and other black details were very popular. It’s a very glam look.”

Q: What kind of celebrities attend Bridal Market, and were you lucky enough to spot any?
A: “Every year it’s a bit different, but I know Martha Stewart attends, Preston Bailey and all the huge industry celebrities. Saturday night I sat right next to Randy from Say Yes to the Dress. “

Bridal Market Fall 2010

Bridal Market is how the fashion world lets everyone know what’s hot, what’s not, what’s new, and what you need to do to be stylish on your wedding day. The next market isn’t until the spring, so if you didn’t get your fill from the interview with Ms. Gallo, don’t worry…there’s a whole lot more where that came from!

Last night I took a little road trip with Ginger and Corinna to attend the launch party for the fall issue of Weddings Unveiled in Charleston, SC! I received a few copies of the fall issue early this week, and as I looked through the delicious details from real weddings and the stunning equestrian-inspired editorial shoot, I finally came to the page I was looking for – our half page ad on p. 198! This is our first big print ad, and I’m so excited that it is in such a gorgeous magazine!

Though Charleston is just a 3 1/2 hour drive away, it seemed to take longer as we drove through constant rain, wondering if the threat of flash floods was real. But we’re Florida girls, and it rains ALL the time here in the “Sunshine State,” so a little water wasn’t going to deter us from getting our party on!

We arrived at the Charleston Library Society and I was just in awe of its charm. The steps leading up to the door made for such a grand entrance. When we walked in to the room, there was music playing and a chorus of voices chatting about weddings over cocktails and some incredible southern-inspired hors d’ouerves! The lighting directed your attention to the gorgeous wedding gowns on display:

I forgot to bring a point and shoot camera, so all I have are images from my trusty iPhone! But I treasure all 2 megapixels of detail that they captured! : )

The highlight of the evening for me was meeting the infamous Emily H (because to her Twitter name, I feel like the H has to be mentioned!). Her enthusiasm for Weddings Unveiled is the main reason we decided to advertise with them! I also had the privilege of meeting Brooke Thomas, the Publisher and Creative Director of the magazine! They made us feel so welcome and just the opportunity to say hello to the amazing people behind this gorgeous magazine was worth the drive!

As they encouraged us to enjoy the party, I indulged in a special champagne punch that was created for the party. Other favorites included delightful mini cupcakes by Wild Flour Pastry, the crab cakes by Duvall Catering & Event Design, and the stunning and oh-so-delicious cake creation by Jim Smeal I also loved the intimate setting created by the romantic centerpieces designed by Blossoms Events.

I’m so thankful to my road trip girls for being crazy enough to drive 7 hours round trip to spend 2 wonderful hours at this event! The conversation in the car was a great part of the experience, and really this drive was nothing compared to 12 hours roundtrip to Pensacola! We are a bit crazy, but when you are in good company a road trip is a great time!

Thank you to Weddings Unveiled for a lovely evening and inviting us to celebrate the launch of the fall issue with you! It’s exciting to be part of such a gorgeous publication! : )

WPPI Road Trip – Orlando

September 24, 2010

On Wednesday, I headed down to Orlando for the day to attend the WPPI Road Trip. WPPI stands for Wedding & Portrait Photographers International, and they host one of the largest photography conventions every year in Las Vegas. I’ve been a member of WPPI for a couple years, but last year was my first time going to Vegas for the convention. It’s several days of workshops, shoots, making new friends, and reviewing products and services from amazing vendors at the trade show. This year, the show happens to be during my birthday. Thanks, WPPI! : )

WPPI has brought a mini version of the Vegas convention to different cities throughout the US. Last year, I went to the road trip in Atlanta. This year, I was able to stay a little closer to home and head to Orlando. I saw a lot of other photographers that I knew or was “Facebook friends” with, which was great. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take any photos! And this time I even told myself that I needed to take photos, but after waking up at 5am and driving down to Orlando I think I was too tired to remember!

My favorite speakers were Rebecca Grinnals of Engaging Concepts and photographer Garrett Nudd. They were both informative and inspiring. Garrett Nudd had me teary-eyed as I was reminded of why I do what I do.

I’m looking forward to going to Vegas in the spring! Hope to see some of you there! : )
