Matt and I just returned from an amazing trip to New Orleans for the annual ImagingUSA Expo! Imaging is the big convention held by Professional Photographers of America (PPA). We’ve been PPA members since the start of our business, but this is our first time attending Imaging. We’re definitely planning on going again next year! I’ve been to the big convention and trade show held by Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) and while they are similar in a lot of ways I got a lot more out of attending Imaging.

Part of the reason is that Matt was there with me, so we were able to sit down and review everything we learned and all the products we saw and start doing a lot of business planning on our trip. We were on the expo floor almost the entire time that it was open, meeting with vendors, asking questions about their business, and looking at their products. We are really excited about the changes we will be making to our packages very soon! We also found lots of pretty things for our studio (REALLY can’t wait for you to see that!!). We also attended seminars presented by some incredibly talented photographers, such as Jerry Ghionis, Robert Evans, and Kenny Kim!

Yesterday I shared images from an Indian wedding at Ventana’s that I shot with Atlanta wedding photographer Rupa Kapoor of Love Captured Simply. Today, I’m sharing an Indian wedding at the Georgia Aquarium – and this bride is the twin sister of the one in yesterday’s post! These two gorgeous girls had separate wedding ceremonies and one elaborate, elegant wedding reception (which will be posted tomorrow!).

The fantastic part about having a wedding at the Georgia Aquarium in the Oceans Ballroom is the array of fish, sharks, and whales that swim by during the ceremony! Every once in a while you heard guests going “ooh” and “ahh” when something would swim by. It was a beautiful place to get married!

Tomorrow I’ll post a few details from the reception. You won’t believe how this space was transformed into a very swanky reception area with a lounge, casino, and a dance floor in addition to dining and dancing space! Thanks again to Rupa for allowing me to come shoot!

Since I’m hanging out with my friend Rupa this week on our photography retreat in Vail, I thought it would be a great time to share some images that I shot for her last June. It was a double Indian wedding in Atlanta, and it was just phenomenal! I am so thankful to Rupa for allowing me to come second shoot for her, because she’s so talented and such a great friend! So here is Part 1 of 3 of the amazing double Indian wedding. The two brides are twin sisters, and they had separate wedding ceremonies with a joint wedding reception. The first wedding was at Ventanas in downtown Atlanta, a gorgeous event space covered with windows with a rooftop that has the most incredible view of the skyline. Ah-ma-zing! The bride surprised her groom with a helicopter ride around the city as his wedding gift!! And if you think that is cool, just wait until you see Parts 2 and 3! Sorry, that’s all I can tell you for now! You’ll just have to keep coming back to see what I mean! : )

Thank you Rupa for the opportunity to shoot with you! It was the experience of a lifetime and the couples and their friends and family were so wonderful. It was an honor to be part of their wedding memories!

Talk about a great way to start the week! First, we gave away a copy of “Something Borrowed,” which comes out on DVD tomorrow! Then we found out that Jessi & Jeff’s Save The Date for their downtown Nashville wedding was featured on GetMarried.com under “10 Fun Save the Date Ideas .” Since they were married in Music City, they decided to have their friend (and amazing graphic designer) Cory Ridge design a backstage pass as their Save The Date! Certain badges, like those sent to the wedding party, were actually VIP passes! We totally love when a couple does something cute and creative like that!

I’m always a sucker for wedding movies, so I’m thrilled that there are 3 wedding movies out right now! Last week, I went out to a matinee to see “Jumping The Broom” with my friend Katrina from Made of Honor Weddings. There were some weaknesses in the movie (such as rushing the beginning of the story, forcing the characters to be over the top ridiculous and far too many sub-conflicts) but overall I really enjoyed it. It’s not going to be an Oscar-worthy movie and there are no performances of a lifetime here, but if you’re looking for entertainment I think this movie has it. It made me laugh and cry and yell at the screen, and that was well worth the $5 I spent on a matinee movie ticket!

The biggest thing to take away from this movie is that when you marry someone, you marry their family, and things aren’t always going to be perfect. It’s a challenge when your family pulls you in one direction and your spouse pulls you in another. You shouldn’t have to choose, but this movie exaggerates the point by making the mother of the groom unwilling to compromise. In fact, before ever meeting the bride she is biased against her, and you just know it’s going to be bad. Just how bad it gets may surprise you, though. I was ready to jump out of my seat and hit her myself!

I’m definitely going to buy this one on DVD when it’s released. I still need to see “Something Borrowed” and “Bridesmaids.” Anyone up for a matinee?

Every wedding is a celebration of two individuals proclaiming their undying love and devotion for one another, there is certainly no denying that. But let’s face it: you want to make YOUR wedding the best, the most unique, to have or do something that no one else has done before. Sometimes it seems we might even want to go above and beyond the last wedding we obsessed over {is that so bad, I mean, your big day only happens once, right?!}. So what makes a wedding swoon worthy? Well, in my opinion, it is the personal touch in all the little details that the couple threads through their ceremony, reception, cocktail parties, after parties, you know what I mean! Here are some websites and ideas that have totally inspired me; some small, some big, but all of these have made me think {WOW}! Enjoy the inspiration along with some of my favorite ways people have added that special touch to their Big Day.

{WEDDING BEE }: Totally inspiring Bees come up with crazy cool ideas for little personal touches that can be doused all over the place. I love these Tears of Joy Tissue packets Mrs. Sunrise made and the wonderful tutorial she gave. These are cute and practical, need I say more?

{What woman doesn’t shed a tear at a wedding?!}

Want to make your guests say “Holy Martha Stewart!” before they even get to the wedding? There’s nothing more heartfelt then receiving a handwritten note from the Bride and Groom along with your welcome bag. Okay, so this may not be practical for every Bride if you don’t have a lot of time, or if you have a few hundred guests, but if you can swing it, this is sure to leave a lasting impression!

{PROGRAMS} I know, sometimes even I think these can be a waste of paper, but if they are creative, fun, and most of all, reflective of the Bride and Groom’s style, it makes me warm and fuzzy! Check out Intimate Weddings for fabulous inspiration and ideas like the tutorial on how to make your own puzzle program fans. I absolutely heart these, and no, it doesn’t have anything to do with my insane love for Mad Libs! These are pretty, fun, and functional and I love how there are three different puzzles on the back design for everyone to enjoy!

…..it puts a big fat smile on my face! Now this is personalization with style and pizazz! I just adore how fun and creative these are. It’s one thing to have personalized beer labels, but to have brewed the beer yourself, {SERIOUSLY} fantastic! Props to my old college buddy Alison {we attended UVM together} who created these for her wedding! She just so happens to be a badass floral designer in VT. Check out her post explaining the meaning behind her creative awesomeness.

{DESIGN TIP} Want to make a WOW statement, without a WOW budget? I have two words for you. Colored. Tablecloths. Tables take up the most square feet at a reception and make the biggest design impact when you use a colored or textured tablecloth. A great balance to stunning linens is a sweet and simple centerpiece {and you can never go wrong with candles}. You love bright colors and fun fabrics? I say, go for it! Put your flair in all the bits and pieces and let your personalities shine!
