We’ve been blogging like crazy about all of our fun travels in California (and Nevada!) but now it’s time to get back to weddings, engagements & portraits!

While we were in California, we met up with my friend Jess for some wine tasting at Galleano Winery. After sampling (and purchasing) some delicious wines, we went around the winery for a mini photo shoot! Jess is just gorgeous and so outgoing and totally rocked the whole shoot. She didn’t need much direction, which is perfect because we like people to show us their natural hotness!

I think Jess channeled her inner Sasha Fierce because we definitely sensed a bit of diva when she put those sunglasses on! At first she was all sweet and demure and then when she got comfortable… she brought on the SASS!!

I just love this girl! She’s beautiful, smart, athletic, AND she’s a true fan of the black & gold! Gotta love a Steelers girl! I don’t get to see her nearly enough since we live on opposite sides of the country, but I’m so glad we got to catch up last week!

Love ya, girl!

I love how Facebook can bring complete strangers together! I met Alexandra Walker of Elle Photography through Facebook. I’m not even sure how she found me, but we’ve commented on each other’s photos, status updates – you know, become “Facebook friends.” When she asked me about doing her headshots for her new website (coming soon), I was like “Sure!” It’s always fun hanging out with another photographer and, oh yeah, she also happens to be absolutely gorgeous!

We had such a fun time on Friday afternoon. Before meeting up with Alexandra, I had lunch with my friend and fellow photog Steph Owens and she came along to shoot with me. It was just a fun day hanging out with the girls. Alexandra TOTALLY worked the camera! She was just cute and playful and needed very little direction.

I have so much fun shooting weddings and portraits, but I rarely take an afternoon just to shoot “for fun.” Sometimes groups of us photographers will get together and have a fun shoot, but we don’t do it nearly enough. I had such a great time with these gals and hope to do it again soon!

Here are some of Alexandra’s super hot photos:

Henna Bellies!

April 30, 2009

Last night I was so excited to experience Lily getting her belly decorated with henna! Lily and I did her maternity photos a couple months ago and for this part of her pregnancy she wanted to do something different. I suggested the henna belly idea to her (thinking please, please, PLEASE do it! It would be so cool!!!) and she loved the idea! It was such a beautiful, magical experience watching her celebrate her pregnancy with the beautiful artwork of my new friend, the very talented Faythe Mesic! Faythe is also an expectant mother, and watching the two mommies-to-be have such a personal exchange and bonding over their pregnancies in itself was a beautiful thing!

I really wish I could be here this weekend to celebrate at Lily’s baby shower, but I’m so glad that she invited me over for her henna party! It really was an incredible thing to witness and so nice to spend some time with two very amazing women, Lily and Faythe! And I can’t forget daddy-to-be, Mike. It was nice seeing him, too! : )

If you are pregnant or know someone who is expecting, this is a wonderful way to artistically celebrate the beauty of pregnancy! Faythe also does belly casting, which is such a creative way to document pregnancy. You can find out more information on the Blessing Bellies website.

For Faythe’s make up artist services, visit www.faythemesic.com.

Now for photos!! I’m still so giddy over how cute Lily’s little belly is all decorated up! Congratulations, and we can’t wait to see little baby Zoey! : )

The Fan Family

April 11, 2009

I met up today with my awesome friends Vic and Candi to do some family photos for Easter. Aren’t they a beautiful family?

Vic and Candi are such a smoking hot couple, so we will hopefully be doing a couples shoot in the near future! It’s going to be a steamy shoot, for sure!

Happy Easter everyone! : )

Lily’s Maternity Session

January 27, 2009

This was such a beautiful and sacred shoot that I’m not even sure where to start talking about it or how to find the words. Lily and Mike are two incredibly special and amazing people, and it is so exciting that they are having a baby! When Lily told me they were pregnant (on Election Night) I couldn’t help the tears. I am so excited for them both!!

Since this was my first maternity session and my first time using the home “studio,” I was a little nervous about how things would go. Since I am not a mother, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to capture all of the emotion that Lily and Mike are feeling. Fortunately, they were so natural that it made my job very easy!

Best wishes to Mike, Lily, Zach, and baby Zoey! : )

That time of year again!

November 17, 2008

Time to torture my pets by dressing them up in cute outfits for the holidays! I love this time of year!

But before fun pics of puppies dressed like elves and eskimos, I want to talk about something that has been on my mind. Actually, Matt said he has been thinking about this as well, so we are going to get into action! We haven’t volunteered much since the wedding. Life got a little crazy but now that the wedding planning is over and I’m almost finished with school we are going to look for worthwhile causes to get involved with!

We were looking for a place to volunteer on Thanksgiving Day, but so far we are not having luck finding anything in Jacksonville or Orlando. I don’t know if organizations have enough volunteers or they just aren’t maintaining their websites, but we will try calling places. The best Thanksgiving I ever spent was serving food at a Salvation Army event in Orlando. It wasn’t that I felt good about myself because I had done a good deed, because I volunteered all the time. I was very moved by the realization that there were hundreds of complete strangers coming together on that day and I didn’t feel like we were all strangers. It was an amazing experience talking to people I had never met before, sharing a day that is usually reserved for close friends and family, and talking to them like we were already acquainted. What a powerful thing!

Yesterday in church Pastor Stovall talked about how much our members have given to the church and in essence to the community and the world. Honestly, it was hard for me not to cry because his message spoke to something that has been on my heart recently. After the service I shared a thought I had with Matt (more about that in a minute) and he agreed that it was a great idea. Then today on my drive home I heard a message on NPR about a website called redefinechristmas.org. I’m so glad they are creating awareness for this, because when Matt and I started making our holiday travel plans we agreed — no gifts! We are not buying gifts and we do not want to receive gifts. This holiday is going to be about spending time with family and giving to others.

That being said, we had still planned to send out holiday cards to everyone… until yesterday. I proposed that instead of sending out cards this year we take that money and donate it (most likely to an Adopt An Angel program). Sorry to ruin the surprise for the few people who read this blog and are on my Christmas card list, but I wanted to put the idea out there early so that other people could consider it for themselves. Our plan is to create a photo holiday card (which we were going to do anyway) and email it out to everyone with a holiday message about what we are doing and why. And as a bonus, this idea is eco-friendly! Hooray green Christmas!

Now comes the fun part… the photo for our holiday card. A couple years ago we took a family photo with our (then) two cats and one dog. It took us 100 tries before we got one where the cats kinda sorta looked at the camera. So this year… no cats. Sorry! Last year when we got Peanut we bought matching little red jackets trimmed with white “fur” for our Christmas photo, but our delay in taking Peanut home caused us to miss out on the photo opp… until NOW! As usual, Peanut LOVED posing for the camera. He really knows how to work it like a supermodel! Taz was reluctant, but he gave his best Bah Humbug! to the camera anyway. We are probably going to email both pics out with our holiday greeting. : )

With all the cold weather we are getting right now and all the “signs” about giving, I thought this was an appropriate time to start spreading messages of love for the holidays. In case I don’t blog again before Thanksgiving (final paper due and oral exam next week) I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday full of reasons to be truly thankful!

Photographing Chef Cilla

October 22, 2008

It’s not every day that I get a request to do business portraits, so when I was contacted by Chef Cilla of Traveling Treats to help her update her photo on the “About” part of her website I had to be honest with her. I told her it was not my stronger area of photography, but I would give it a shot! Talking on the phone with her you can tell she is outgoing and hospitable. A review of her website (http://travelingtreats.org) and her menu shows that she is a southern gal with a flair for “Southern Fusion” cuisine. With so much personality (and beauty, to boot) I just couldn’t picture Cilla in a bland, corporate portrait setting. There had to be COLOR!

I told Cilla in the beginning about how the initial shots are always so awkward and usually the last shots are the ones where the personality of the subject shine through. Such was the case with Cilla. The shot she decided on was one of our last shots, and it happened to be my favorite of the bunch, too!

Below is a view of her website. Make sure you stop by Traveling Treats at http://travelingtreats.org to learn more about Chef Cilla’s catering services (including her Sweet Treats 2 Go… yum!!).
